San Pedro Police Launch Crime Suppression Squad

The San Pedro Police Sub-Formation has launched a new motorcycle team, dubbed the Crime Suppression Squad (CSS), to strengthen policing efforts on the island. Announced this week, the CSS will operate primarily in the San Pedrito and DFC areas of San Pedro and work alongside the existing operations team to target criminal activity. The unit’s formation marks an expansion of local law enforcement efforts aimed at addressing gang activity, drug trafficking, and other crimes.
The CSS will conduct intelligence-led patrols, with schedules and routes adjusted based on ongoing information and analysis. Officers have already begun targeting known drug bases and suspected gang locations, using motorcycles to navigate narrow streets and respond more quickly. The squad will work alongside ongoing intelligence operations and regular uniformed patrols to provide additional coverage in priority areas.
The motorcycle team forms part of a broader strategy by the San Pedro Police Sub-Formation to curb organized crime on the island. Officials said the CSS will complement existing operations. At the same time, other initiatives, including a proposed Boat Interdiction Squad, are being considered for the medium and long term to address maritime routes reportedly used for drug trafficking. Police emphasized that these measures are part of an ongoing effort to deploy resources in areas where intelligence indicates they are most needed.
“We are committed to doing all we can, within the law and our resources, to keep San Pedro safe,” a Sub-Formation spokesperson said. Police also urged the San Pedro community to help by reporting suspicious activity. “See something, say something. Report suspicious activity to 911.”
The CSS will rely in part on community information to help officers identify areas and activities that require attention. Police expect the increased mobility of the motorcycle unit, combined with intelligence gathering and regular patrols, to strengthen their presence in targeted areas.
The San Pedro Police Sub-Formation plans to continue coordinating the CSS with its existing operations and other proposed specialized units. Officials said sustained intelligence gathering and public cooperation will be important to the long-term effectiveness of these crime-fighting initiatives.
