San Pedro Lions represent Belize at regional forum in Colombia

From September 9th through the 13th, Belize’s Provisional Region 59, which includes the San Pedro Lions and Leos Club, participated in the 46th ELAC Leos Convention (Encuentro Latinoamericano y del Caribe). The event was held in the historic city of Cartagena, Colombia.
San Pedro Lions Club President Rosalyn Tzib led a delegation comprising Lion Secretary Nesher Acosta, Lion Ana Ico, Lion Dayrin Mar, Lion Shaherah Young, Lion Aliyah Dennison, and Leo Alexander Cano. They joined representatives from several Latin American and Caribbean countries, including El Salvador, Panama, Venezuela, and Chile.
Acosta said the activities focused on youth leadership, community development, and regional collaboration within Lions Clubs International. “It was mostly Leo presentations on how best to help each other in different areas such as marketing and social media skills,” Acosta said.
The convention also featured leadership workshops hosted by Lions Clubs International, along with international debate panels. Other activities included the Desfile de las Banderas (Parade of Flags) and the culturally diverse Noche de las Naciones (Night of the Nations). The San Pedro delegation proudly displayed the Belizean flag during the various activities, particularly during the Parade of Flags. They also distributed Belizean products and souvenirs, including Marie Sharp’s hot sauces.
Tzib described the event as a memorable experience that strengthened their connections with the regional Lions community. “It was a pleasure to represent Belize at our Leos and Lions forum,” Tzib said. “It was also heartwarming to showcase our Belizean products and share with everyone where we are located, since many at the event did not know where Belize is located. But the most important thing to us is the time and camaraderie we shared with the many delegates. We all share one purpose, and it is serving.”
Tzib said the convention provided a unique opportunity to exchange experiences, knowledge, and culture with fellow Lions and Leos. “The experience is unforgettable,” she said. Tzib added that she hopes Belize will one day host an international Lions and Leos event.
The forum concluded with a city tour and ceremonies during which several Lions were recognized for their service in their respective communities. A dinner and special presentations officially closed the convention. The final day also included an optional activity dubbed Día de Playa (Beach Day), held at a resort approximately ten minutes by boat from Cartagena.
The San Pedro Lions Club expressed gratitude to everyone who continues to support the organization and helped make its participation in the international event possible. The club said it remains committed to serving the San Pedro community while proudly representing Belize at international Lions events.
The next ELAC event is scheduled to take place in Lima, Peru, in 2027.
