San Pedro Lions Club Holds Fundraiser Ahead of 51st Anniversary

Share

The San Pedro Lions Club held a fundraiser at the Lions Den on Friday, October 16th, ahead of its 51st anniversary celebration. Featuring entertainer Omar Cervera, the evening brought supporters together for music, comedy, and fundraising for the club’s community service projects.
Founded in 1975, the San Pedro Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International’s global service network. Its founding members were Valdemar Graniel, Pedro “Pete” Salazar, Francisco Verde, and Wilfredo Nuñez. The club built the island’s first clinic in 1976 and later helped establish the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II in 2005. Over the past five decades, it has supported education, parks, disaster relief, healthcare, and vulnerable residents, while encouraging younger generations to participate in community service through the San Pedro Cubs Club.

At the fundraiser, Cervera entertained the audience with impersonations of Juan Gabriel, Paquita la del Barrio, and Vicente Fernández. He also took requests, performing songs by Luis Miguel, Shakira, and Paulina Rubio. His performances blended music and humor as supporters gathered to support the club’s work on the island.
Club members sold tickets, while food and drinks were available for purchase. Proceeds will support the club’s ongoing community service projects and outreach efforts, helping it continue assisting island residents.

The club will hold its official 51st anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 24th, at the Lions Den. The gala will begin at 7PM and include dinner, dancing, and awards recognizing service to the club and community. The occasion will bring members and supporters together to celebrate the organization’s history and the contributions behind its anniversary milestone.
As the San Pedro Lions Club marks 51 years, it continues its work through health initiatives, youth programs, environmental projects, and emergency assistance. The anniversary offers an opportunity to recognize the members, volunteers, and supporters who have sustained its service to Ambergris Caye for more than five decades.
