Caribbean Chicken Partners with Holy Cross Anglican School to Feed More Than 500 Students

Caribbean Chicken partnered with Holy Cross Anglican School in San Pedro on Wednesday, October 28th, to provide a free breakfast for more than 500 students. The event marked the company’s first initiative of its kind on the island.
Organized in observance of World Food Day, the breakfast aimed to support children’s well-being and readiness to learn. Students received their meals in groups: preschool and infant division students at 8:30AM, middle division students at 9AM, and upper division students at 9:30AM.
According to Holy Cross Principal Elsy Torres, Caribbean Chicken selected the school after seeking recommendations in San Pedro. Everyone the company approached recommended Holy Cross Anglican School, making it the first school on the island to benefit from the initiative.
The morning brought together school staff, parents, and Caribbean Chicken employees. Country Manager Jacob Klasson led the company’s team, who traveled from Blue Creek in Orange Walk, alongside San Pedro Manager Lindford Magana. Armando Cowo, Manager of the Poultry Industry of Belize, also attended and spoke with students about the importance of World Food Day.
Teaching and auxiliary staff, along with parents, began assisting at 6AM, helping prepare and serve a breakfast of eggs, ham, tortillas, and juice. Each student received a small token before leaving, while some also won prizes for answering questions about World Food Day.
Torres welcomed the partnership and described the breakfast as more than a meal. “We are delighted and deeply grateful that Caribbean Chicken selected Holy Cross Anglican School as the first island school for its World Food Day initiative,” she said. She described the event as “an investment in our children’s well-being and readiness to learn.”
Torres also highlighted the importance of community cooperation, saying businesses and communities can help build a stronger foundation for children’s futures. “At Holy Cross, we believe that educating children means caring for the whole child, mind, body, and spirit,” she said.
The principal hopes the initiative will encourage other San Pedro businesses to support local schools through similar community programs. For Holy Cross, the breakfast offered a memorable way to observe World Food Day. It demonstrated how partnerships among schools, businesses, and industry representatives can directly benefit children on the island.
