Golf Cart Moratorium Remains in Effect as San Pedro Continues to Tackle Traffic Challenges

The moratorium on golf cart and vehicle imports for San Pedro remains in effect, island officials confirmed, with only a small number of permits issued since the policy was implemented. The import pause, first introduced in October 2024, was intended to manage road safety and traffic density on Ambergris Caye and continues to restrict the entry of new vehicles.

International Airport Project Moves Forward for Ambergris Caye

Several major projects are in the pipeline for northern Ambergris Caye, including three new schools and an international airport. Construction of the schools is expected to begin this year, while plans for the new airport have reportedly been approved. Once completed, the airport will accommodate private jets, domestic and regional flights, and charter services.

Islanders Hold Peaceful Protest Over Cost of Living and Development Concerns

On Wednesday, June 3rd, a group of islanders led by Celestino Tzul held a peaceful demonstration in downtown San Pedro, highlighting issues affecting many islanders and Belizeans nationwide. Carrying placards, the group denounced the government and called on it to better address the high cost of living, corruption, lack of transparency, and the approval of what they described as unsustainable development projects.

Free Health Clinic Focuses on Diabetes Prevention and Early Detection

A community health clinic was held on Wednesday, June 3rd, from 9:30AM to 3PM at the Lion’s Den. The event brought together the San Pedro Lions Club, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and the San Pedro Town Council for a day of free medical services and public health education.

San Pedro Lions Club Joins 85th Istmania Convention in Honduras

Six members of Lions International Belize Provisional Region 59 attended the 85th Annual Istmania Convention in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, from May 21–23, representing both the San Pedro Lions Club and the Sub Umbra Floreo Lions Club of Belize City. They joined delegates from seven Central American nations for the regional gathering.

Hollywood Glamour Takes Center Stage at San Pedro High School Prom 2026

San Pedro High School's 2026 prom brought Hollywood-style glamour to the Angel Nuñez Auditorium on May 30th, under the theme "Lights, Camera, Prom! Classic Hollywood Prom 2026: An Evening on the Red Carpet." Students arrived in elegant formal attire for one of the school's most anticipated celebrations of the year. The prom began at 6:30PM and featured a red-carpet entrance designed to evoke the feel of a Hollywood movie premiere.

Community Volunteers Unite for Another Sargassum Clean-Up

A grassroots movement formed by a group of island residents known as San Pedro Citizens for Change (SPCC) continues to advocate for local needs through community action. The group recently organized another Sargassum clean-up effort in the downtown area. The latest campaign took place on Sunday, May 31st, when volunteers tackled a section of beach north of Central Park that had become nearly impassable due to large accumulations of the brown seaweed. SPCC thanked everyone who participated and stated that it plans to continue its clean-up efforts every other week, along with other community projects.

The Island Academy Honors 12 Graduates at 30th Commencement Ceremony

The Island Academy held its 30th graduation ceremony on Friday, May 29th, at 6:30PM on the school grounds, celebrating 12 graduates and marking three decades of service to the community. Family members, faculty, and staff gathered to recognize the students' accomplishments as they received diplomas, shared reflections, and accepted awards for academic and personal achievements.
