Caye Caulker Village Council seeks referendum over police station property

The Caye Caulker Village Council continues to collect signatures from residents to trigger a referendum on the future of the current police station property (Parcel 815). The council is encouraging Hicaqueños to sign a petition at its offices to oppose any potential sale of the land and to gather enough registered voters to initiate a formal referendum.

San Pedro marks Earth Day with cleanups and community events

San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, joined the rest of Belize in observing Earth Day on April 22nd, hosting a series of activities focused on environmental conservation and community engagement. The annual observance brought together residents, organizations, and local authorities to promote sustainability amid ongoing concerns about rising tourism and environmental pressures on the island.

San Pedro team competes at Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica

San Pedro Town’s Captain Jaime Guerrero, along with Team Catchin’ A Buzz, represented Belize at one of the world’s most prestigious fishing tournaments, the Costa Offshore World Championship (OWC). The highly regarded event, held from April 20th to 22nd in Quepos, Costa Rica, brought together over 38 teams from 20 countries, making participation a significant achievement for any captain and crew.

San Pedro Food Bank relocates, continues support for families

On Friday, April 17th, the San Pedro Food Bank hosted its first pantry distribution at its new location upstairs from the Caye Caftan building on Sea Grape Drive. A total of 60 families received food and household items through community donations. The event ran from 9:30AM to 11:30AM and resumed from 1PM to 3PM. Councilor Dianeli Aranda, who leads the initiative, organized the distribution.

San Pedro Lions Club joins service mission in Sarteneja

The San Pedro Lions Club partnered with the Corozal Lions Club for a service mission in Sarteneja Village on April 18th and 19th. The visit marked the start of their Environmental Week of Service, which runs from April 18th to 26th.

Triple R expands Caye Caulker operations with new ambulance

The Rickilee Response and Rescue team (Triple R) expanded its emergency response capacity in Caye Caulker by adding a fully equipped ambulance. The island-based emergency team, which also operates in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, welcomed the upgrade, noting that it will significantly improve their emergency response on La Isla Cariñosa, where they previously relied on a golf cart.

San Pedro shows strong support at autism awareness run and walk

San Pedro residents came together on Saturday, April 18th, for an Autism Awareness Run and Walk that began at Boca del Rio Park at 6AM and drew approximately 80 participants, according to organizers. The event was a collaboration between the San Pedro Town Council, led by Councilor Johnnia Rivero Duarte, and Autism Belize.

San Pedro’s Mighty Blue Jaguars celebrated after Band Fest championship win

The San Pedro Roman Catholic School marching band, the Mighty Blue Jaguars, was celebrated on Friday, April 17th evening with a victory parade, award ceremony, and live performance at Ambergris Stadium following their first-place win in the school category at Band Fest 2026. The parade began at the south gas station at 5PM and ended at the stadium, where the performance commenced at 7PM following an awards presentation.
