San Pedro Beauty Ambassador Faith Edgar Marks Second Victoria Peak Achievement
Faith Edgar, Miss World Belize and founder of the charity Smile for Belize, completed her second summit of Victoria Peak on May 8th after a grueling three-day hike through the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary rainforest. The trek forms part of her preparation for the 73rd Miss World pageant, scheduled to take place in Vietnam on September 5th.

2nd Annual San Pedro Kids Fishing Tournament Brings Families Together for Fun Day
The second annual San Pedro Kids Fishing Tournament was held in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, on Sunday, May 10th, attracting hundreds of children and their parents for a fun-filled day of fishing and family activities. The engaging competition started at 7AM, with participants fishing from shorelines, seawalls, and piers around town. By 2PM, everyone returned to the weighing station at the Boca del Rio Beach Park with their catches, where games, raffles, and prize presentations highlighted the afternoon festivities.

The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) celebrated mothers in grand style on Saturday, May 9th, at its annual Mother’s Day extravaganza held at the Saca Chispas Field. The evening featured live entertainment, games, karaoke, gifts, and heartfelt recognition, including crowning Manuelita Marin as Mother of the Year 2026. Families gathered for the festive event honoring the important role mothers play in the community.

Kentucky Derby Fundraiser Delivers Record Support for SAGA
Someplace South Café Bar in San Pedro hosted its 5th Annual Kentucky Derby Fundraiser for the SAGA Humane Society on Saturday, May 2nd, from 12PM to 6PM. The event drew a strong turnout of community members who gathered for food, drinks, live music, and a series of fun contests, all in support of animal welfare on Ambergris Caye.

The Department of the Environment (DOE) has been partnering with municipalities nationwide to enhance noise abatement efforts. Continuing this mandate, the DOE team in San Pedro recently partnered with the Caye Caulker Liquor License Board to help address noise pollution concerns in the island community.

WWF Mesoamerica Marks 40 Years of Conservation Achievements
WWF Mesoamerica (World Wide Fund for Nature) celebrated four decades of conservation work in Central America with a special anniversary event on April 29th in Belize City. The milestone highlighted the organization’s environmental efforts across the region, including Belize, and formed part of a series of celebrations also taking place in Honduras and Guatemala.

Drainage for Newly Paved Streets Underway
Road upgrades continued across San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, bringing major infrastructure improvements to key arteries in several subdivisions, including Marina Drive and the southern road. While concrete street paving has provided relief to commuters who previously dealt with deteriorating road conditions, concerns remain about the lack of proper drainage systems in some newly paved areas.
