Water and Sewage Expansion Planned as South Road Paving Continues
The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) is supporting the Belize Water Services Limited (BWSL) on major infrastructure upgrades as paving works continue along the island’s southern road network. In a March 3rd interview, Mayor Gualberto “Wally” Nuñez highlighted coordinated efforts to upgrade water lines and sewage systems alongside ongoing roadworks. The overall focus of BWL’s projects focuses on South Road near Mahogany Bay, the San Mateo area, the DFC subdivision, and San Pedrito, aiming to improve utilities and accessibility across Ambergris Caye.

Law Mandates Public Access to Docks
The issue of public access to docks and beachfront areas remains a contentious topic on the Cayes. Under Belize’s “Queen’s Land” 66-foot rule, land up to the high-water mark is considered public property. Additionally, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) requires that structures built on national land stay accessible to the public from 6AM to 6PM, banning permanent gates, fences, chains, or other barriers that hinder access.

Female Police Officers Honored at Church Service to Mark Women’s Month
Female police officers from San Pedro and Caye Caulker were recognized during a special church service on Sunday, March 1st, as part of activities celebrating Women’s Month. The San Pedro Police Force attended the 10AM mass at the San Pedro Roman Catholic Church, which was celebrated by Fr. Eduardo Montemayor.

Caye Caftans Celebrates Women’s Month with Donation to Female Police Officers
On March 3rd, Caye Caftans donated clothing to all female officers stationed at the San Pedro Police Station in Belize in honor of Women’s Month. The officers visited the Caye Caftans store in San Pedro, where they could select outfits of their choice. On-site seamstresses were also available to make any necessary alterations.

San Pedro Celebrates Start of Child Stimulation Month
Child Stimulation Month officially began nationwide in Belize on March 2nd, emphasizing the importance of early childhood education and development. In San Pedro Town, the local Education Office, in collaboration with the San Pedro Town Council, celebrated the occasion with an opening ceremony at 9AM in Central Park. The event featured speeches, performances, and a parade through several main streets in town.

New Horizon Seventh Day Adventist School Gets Brand-New Playground
Students of New Horizon Seventh Day Adventist School (NHSDAS), south of San Pedro Town, now have a brand-new playground. The new addition to the school compound was officially unveiled on March 2nd, made possible by the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye. The island club partnered with the Strathcona Rotaract Club and Sunday Rotaract Clubs of Alberta, along with the Rotary Club of Belize City and Canadian non-profit Mission to Children.

Big Turnout for RRR’s 7th Annual Poker Run
San Pedro’s Rickilee Response and Rescue (RRR/Triple R) hosted its seventh annual Poker Run fundraiser on February 28, 2026, attracting more than 300 participants who visited six Boca del Rio establishments: Xoti’s, Hurricanes, Wayo’s, Sandy Toes, Vibez, and Nauti Crab. The event generated 388 poker hands, 35 raffle prizes, a 50/50 draw that netted over $3,750, and a silent auction featuring high-value packages, including stays at Mystic River and Victoria House. The poker prize pool exceeded $4,750, and both winners, Denise and Kenton, donated their winnings back to RRR.

Community Conversations: Land firm or lose your ground
Almost six years ago, on May 20, 2020, the Government issued a warning to the public about squatting. In its brief statement, the Government reminded us that squatting on national land or private land is illegal.
