Another professional has joined the team at the San Pedro Saga Humane Society. After liaising with the Belize Veterinary Surgeons Board, Dr. Samantha English has been certified to practice medicine at Saga with a temporary permit through March of 2017.
Dr. English, a Canadian national, obtained her Bachelor of Science with honours from the University of Guelph in 2002. Four years later, she graduated with a degree of Doctor in Veterinary Medicine from the Ontario Veterinary College. She spent the following nine and a half years doing practising small animal medicine in Florida, USA before moving to San Pedro Town in December 2015.
According to English, the decision to become a veterinarian is due to her interest in science and growing up with show dogs. “I came here for the adventure, to fill a big need for a vet on Ambergris Caye and make a difference in the health and quality of life of the owned and stray animals of San Pedro Town,” she commented.
Dr. English does not work alone at the veterinary clinic at Saga. In order to oversee the health of all the animals in the shelter at the animal clinic, the spay/neuter program SNIP for the public, and see hundreds of locally owned dogs for vaccines, sickness and surgeries she teams along with Saga’s very capable technician Ingrid Lima. Lima is recognized by Belize Veterinarian Board as an Animal Health Assistant who has been with Saga for the past 15 years.
The Board of Directors at Saga Humane Society are pleased to have Dr. English join their family/staff. “We are thrilled to have such a dedicated and skilled veterinarian as part of the Saga Team,” stated Dawn Locascio. Dr. English is also the Secretary and Director of Governance on the Saga Foundation Ltd. Board of Directors.
When Dr. English is not working she loves to travel, run and do Cross Fit.
