San Mateo fisherman’s house shot at several times, killing his dog

A 25-year-old commercial fisherman from the San Mateo subdivision was almost killed on Tuesday evening, October 26th, when an unknown gunman opened fire at his house. The reported barrage of bullets hit windows and the front door, killing the family dog in the yard. Police responded to the incident, but no one has been reportedly detained following the violent attack.

Another person arrested and charged for the deadly shooting incident at Cangrejo Caye

A fifth person has been arrested and charged with the shooting incident which occurred on October 2nd at Cangrejo Caye area near San Pedro Town resulting in the death of Jerry Espat. On Monday, October 18th, 31-year-old Carlos Salazar, a fisherman of the San Mateo subdivision was formally charged for the crime of Murder, Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm, and Wounding.

Delson Paguada remanded for shooting incident at Cangrejo Caye

Police have arrested, charged, and remanded 22-year-old Delson Paguada, in connection with the October 2nd shooting at Cangrejo Caye that resulted in the death of Jerry Espat. Paguada had been sought by police following the incident. Days later, he reportedly handed himself into authorities accompanied by an attorney, and on Tuesday, October 12th, Paguada was arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court for the charges of Attempted Murder, Grievous Harm, Use of Deadly Means of Harm, and Wounding.

Three islanders arraigned for shooting incident at Cangrejo Caye that took Jerry Espat’s life

Gabriel Villafranco, Pedro and Sergio Tun were formally arraigned for the shooting death of Jerry Espat and injuring three others in the Cangrejo Caye shooting of October 2nd.

Jerry Espat found dead after being shot out at sea  

The search for 25-year-old Jerry Espat ended with discovering his lifeless body on Sunday, October 3rd, near Cangrejo Caye, south of Ambergris Caye. Espat went missing at sea the day before when shooters ambushed him and three partners as they fished for conch. Police have reportedly detained one person and are looking for other suspects. 

Islander Jairo Sandoval arrested and charged for shooting Nelson Zetina

20-year-old Jairo Fernando Sandoval has been charged with Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm, Use of Deadly means of Harm, and Aggravated Assault for the shooting of 31-year-old Noe Nelson Zetina on Independence Day, Tuesday, September 21st. Zetina remains stable but critical at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City.

Stabbing in DFC leaves one person injured; police detain two persons 

Initially reported as a shooting, police have confirmed that just after 4PM, on Wednesday, September 22nd, 26-year-old Jean Villatoro was stabbed in his left hand, after being attacked by two men. Villatoro was transported to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II, where he was treated and released.

Alejandro Choc remanded to Central Prison after arraigned for two counts of Rape of a Child

On Thursday, August 26th, Alejandro Choc, age 20, was arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court for two counts of Rape of a Child. In a report made to the police on August 23rd, Choc is accused raping a 12-year-old girl. He was denied bail and will return to court on November 24, 2021.
