BNTU reports teachers going unpaid; MoECST works to resolve the problem
On Wednesday, October 2nd, the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) issued a press release reporting that more than 130 teachers had not received their salaries for September. This non-payment led to significant discontent among the affected teachers, who anticipated their hard-earned compensation to be fully disbursed by the end of the month. In a quick response, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology (MoECST) addressed the recent concern. They recognize and share the problem of ensuring that teachers are paid promptly and efficiently and providing the public with clarifications.

Hope Haven hosts a 3-day educational event
Hope Haven Children’s Home and Empowering Center recently organized a three-day event in Downtown San Pedro for children aged 4 to 13. The event, held from October 2nd to October 4th, featured educational activities from 9AM to 11AM and 3PM to 5PM. The primary objective was to engage and educate the young minds of Ambergris Caye through a range of fun and educational activities, leaving a lasting impact on the children's learning journey.

Government launches website highlighting culture, history, and natural environment
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology (MOECST) has launched a website called Access501. This website offers a wide range of educational resources for Belizeans to learn about the country’s history, culture, and natural environment. The official launch occurred on August 29th at the House of Culture in Belize City.

SPHS hosts 2024 Freshman’s Day
On Friday, August 29th, San Pedro High School (SPH) was full of excitement as it hosted its highly anticipated annual Freshman's Day. This special event marked the official welcome for the new class of first-year students and is a tradition rooted in the school's history. Since the school's relocation to Laguna Drive in 1987, Freshman's Day has been a beloved occasion.

Island Rotary Club hosts another successful Back to School Supply Drive
With the assistance of many generous supporters, the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye collected enough resources to fund its annual ‘Back to School Supply Drive.’ Members of the club joined forces on Wednesday, August 21st, to fill 280 school bags with supplies. The backpacks will benefit students from selected educational institutions on the island. The program aims to raise awareness and encourage community involvement in campaigns designed to alleviate financial challenges for families in need on the island.

Braylon Realty Group hosts third annual back-to-school giveaway drive
Two hundred fifty school bags containing supplies were distributed to a group of children in San Pedro Town on Sunday, August 18th. The initiative, dubbed 'Bak Dah Skul Give a Weh,' is a project by Coda Adams, co-owner of Braylon Realty Group. This is the third year that the school supply giveaway program has benefited island students with the assistance of the Community Policing Unit at the San Pedro Police Formation and San Pedro Women's Department.

The University of Belize Enhances its Registration Process and Addresses Recent Challenges
The University of Belize takes this opportunity to update its students and all other stakeholders on the work it is doing to elevate all its service areas that impact students’ registration every semester. At the start of the registration period for the August semester, the university became aware that the servers that host the Xenegrade registration portal were giving students very slow access and dropped completely several times. Despite these challenges, over 4,500 students have now registered successfully. Nevertheless, some students are encountering a few challenges with their invoices, and with finding spaces in the classes they would like to take.
