Arlethe Lima wins Miss San Pedro High 2012-2013

Miss San Pedro High 2012-2013 was held on Saturday night, June 1st and as promised by organizer Renison Crawford it was bigger and better than in previous years. At the end of a evening of  glamour, poise and colorful costumes, Arlethe Lima was crowned Miss San Pedro High 2012-2013.

Seven young ladies from ages 14 – 17 took to the stage in a competition featuring six segments after which a new Miss San Pedro High School (SPHS) was crowned.  The dance presentation was very well choreographed, and the girls’ hard work was apparent in the uniformity of their performance.

This was followed by a presentation of the young ladies. The young ladies came out sporting the professional attire depicting their career interests. First out to introduce herself was Miss Emily Simose, sponsored by Amigos del Mar, who downed a boxer outfit, highlighted with her desire to protect. Keisha Martin was next, in her soldier outfit, sponsored by Victoria House, she hopes to have the opportunity to protect the country she loves so much. Nikita Coleman was next. Sponsored by Forever Fancy, Nikita’s love of sports inspires her to become a professional basketball player. As such she came out in a green and white jersey with a basketball in hand. Neisy Arzu, sponsored by Moon Dancer sported a Veterinarian outfit, showcasing her love of animals. This was followed by Ethel Villatorro, sponsored by Mata Chica Resort, with her very chic pilot uniform. This she credited to her love of travelling to new destinations. Arlethe Lima was next. Sponsored by Captain Sharks, she spoke very fondly of her love of children as she explained whey her career choice is a pediatrician. Lastly, contestant Fatima Reyes, sponsored by Scott and Donna Richmond, came out wearing her glasses and attired as a teacher, her career aspiration.

In the cultural costume segment, the contestants had a chance to showcase the various cultures and ethnicities that exist within the San Pedro High School and the nation of Belize. Miss Simone was first to walk on stage, with a beautiful Yun Xia silk outfit, fitted and accented by two Chinese fans and her hair held in a roll by two chop sticks. Keisha came to the stage, interpreting a traditional Garifuna dance while showcasing the Garifuna clothing, wearing a long dress with two shades of pink and a traditional Garifuna head piece. Nikita came out proudly walking to the tune of “who seh Kriol no gat no kulcha” sporting her long red white and blue dress and Belize flag in hand.  Neisy Arzu’s costume depicted the East Indian culture. This was followed by Ethel wearing a Hindu belly dancer costume. Arlethe Lima took the stage next, to screams and shouts of support from the auditorium, in an elegant, blue, silver and green outfit with a feathered head piece, representative of the Mayan Goddess “Ix-Chel” Goddess of the Moon and Lady of the Rainbow. Fatima Reyes was last to present, representing the Mestizo Culture.

The culture segment was followed by a beachwear segment, then the much awaited evening gown competition coupled with the question and answer segment. The evening gown segment tested the girls poise, grace and elegance as they made their way across the stage donning their beautiful gowns.

Tasked with the very difficult responsibility of judging the contestants were: Manuel Ancona, Liliana Nuñez, Kamira Cruz Bradley, Norma Graniel, Marion Mejia and Eiden Salazar. At the end of tallying the points and judging throughout the competition, the winners are as follows:

And the New Miss San Pedro High 2013 – 2013 is none other than, the beautiful, elegant Arlethe Lima. For winning the title of Miss SPHS, Arlethe took home a one year scholarship at SPHS, $250 gift certificate courtesy of Rapidito Loans, a 19” TV from Harmouch’s Center, dinner for two at Hidden Treasure and a $100 cash prize courtesy of SP Hardware. First runner up, Keisha Martin took home $100 cash courtesy of Caribeña Enterprise, a 14” TV from Maya Hardware, 1 full day sailing for two to Caye Caulker courtesy of Seaduced, dinner for two at Caramba Restaurant and a necklace courtesy of Ambergris Jade. Main sponsors are: Amigos del Mar, Victoria House, Forever Fancy, Moon Dancer, Mata Chica, Captain Sharks and Scott and Donna Richmond.
