Silvia Patricia Lopez is the 2015 Reina del Carnaval!


It was a night of beauty and entertainment as five lovely ladies competed for the title of Reina del Carnaval 2015. For the second year in a row, Flora Ancona’s Comparsa group organized the pageant to raise funds for the group’s carnaval activities. 49-year-old Rose Marie Linarez, 51-year-old Silvia Patricia Lopez, 48-year-old Nerie Itzab, 42-year-old Sinia Catalina Cruz and 44-year-old Zeida Alamilla competed in three segments in aimed of taking the crown and the coveted title. The pageant is a relatively new part of the traditional island carnival, but its quickly making its mark by opening the Carnaval celebrations before the Lenten season.2015 Reina del Carnaval-11
Master of Ceremonies Eiden Salazar officiated the event, which was held at the Angel Nunez Auditorium. It was a full house as the pageant kicked off shortly after 8PM with the Cultural Wear segment. The five contestants came out dressed in their stunning costumes representing their cultural heritage. Each strutted across the stage with grace and pride for their island’s Carnaval culture.2015 Reina del Carnaval-3
While the ladies prepared for the next segment, the crowd was entertained by the dance skills of the San Pedro Jabawakees and the San Pedro Dance Academy. Both groups came out with high energy, amazing the crowd with their dynamic dance routines. It was the prefect opening for the talent segment of the pageant. From sing to dancing and even a bit of acting, each contestant was well prepared and definitely put on a show for the crowd. The crowd cheered for each contestant, but clear favorites had to be Alamilla’s dance routine of “Caballito de Palo” by Joseph Fonseca, and Lopez’s dance routine of “La Vida es un Carnaval” by Celia Cruz.

Boosted by the crowd, the ladies’ transitioned into the evening gown portion of the night. It was all glitz and glamour, and each contestant sashayed on stage in her elegant and sparkling gown, beaming for the crowd.2015 Reina del Carnaval-22
In the end, three judges had the arduous task of choosing a winner, as only one lady could take the crown. While the judges deliberated, 2014 Reina del Carnaval Leonor Rosado gave her final walk and parting message. Oscar Aguilar then serenaded the lovely contestants with classic ballads as the final points was tallied.

Then it was time to announce the winner. Sinia Catalina Cruz was named the runner-up, and the 2015 Reina del Carnaval was none other than, Silvia Patricia Lopez!

After Lopez’ coronation, everyone was invited to dance the night away to the musical tunes of Rompe Raja.
