Costa Maya Festival Committee says the international celebration is happening this year

The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) was reportedly overseeing the popular international Costa Maya Festival held every August on the island. Last month (May), Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez said the acclaimed festivity would not take place this year; instead, making Dia de San Pedro the main highlight of the local summer celebrations. The reason was due to unforeseen difficulties hindering the organization of the mega event; thus, it was postponed until 2023. On Monday, June 20th, however, a press release from the Costa Maya Festival Committee announced that the festival would take place this year at a date to be later announced.

First-ever Belize International Music and Food Festival to be held in San Pedro

The Honourable Louis Sylvestre Sporting Complex, known as Saca Chispas, will be the venue for the country’s first-ever ‘Belize International Music and Food Festival.’ Set for July 30th and 31st, the event will showcase different Belizean and international music genres, including Reggae, Afro beats, Dancehall, Soca, Punta, and Latin beats, performances of ten international artists, two international deejays, and a host of local artists, deejays and of course fantastic food.

Easter 2022 on Ambergris Caye and across the country

After two years, COVID-19 restrictions were finally lifted. Belizeans across the country publicly celebrated the Easter holidays with various activities ranging from sporting events to religious and popular beach concerts and parties. San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, was one of those favorite places where islanders and visitors had an enjoyable long weekend.

Lobster fests in San Pedro and Caye Caulker are back this year!

After a pause in outdoor events due to COVID-19 restrictions, the lobster fest celebrations are back in San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker. Both organizing committees have announced the dates, with Caye Caulker festivities scheduled July 1st through the 3rd. In San Pedro, festivities start with a lionfish hunt and lobster crawl beginning on June 30th, culminating with the usual block party at Central Park on July 9th.

Green Climate Fund Kicks Off Private Sector Training

The Climate Finance Unit in the Ministry of Economic Development, in its role as the National Designated Authority (NDA) to Green Climate Fund (GCF), in collaboration with the Belize Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI), has received financial support from the GCF, through the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and with the technical support of Willis Towers Watson (WTW), for a project to promote knowledge and understanding of climate finance in the Belizean private sector. The project focuses on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through capacity building to access GCF funding and design bankable projects (GCF concept notes).

Calendar of events for the San Pedro Lobster Festival announced

While Caye Caulker is not hosting their annual lobster fest due to COVID-19, the anticipated event, which celebrates the opening of the lobster season, is set to take place in San Pedro Town. On Friday, June 11th, the San Pedro Lobster Festival committee announced a schedule of events revealing the different venues of this year’s Lobster Crawl. Traditionally this culminates with a block party at Central Park; however, there will be no block party this year.

Scottish toy pirate ship, A2, sailing off the coast of Cuba

The adventurous Scottish toy pirate ship, Adventure II or A2, continues its trek back home to Europe, sailing the Atlantic Ocean with its current location just north of Cuba. The acclaimed Playmobil, which spent several days in Belize between January and February of this year, is sailing at an average speed of 1.1 knots and remains on course. It is anticipated to pass Miami, Florida, USA by this weekend.
