It’s an Island We Have to Keep Clean!

04Press Release – June 30, 2015 – Amidst the usual children playing on the jungle-gym and tourists sun-bathing on the beach, a different group gathered at the Boca Del Rio Park, Tuesday, June 30th with a purpose other than playing or relaxing. Their purpose? Cleaning up! Members of the community along with missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints united their efforts to help make the park and surrounding areas even more beautiful. Armed with gloves and garbage bags, they went out to serve – picking up trash along the way. Community member Marlene Coral said of the activity, “It was fun! I would do it again!”LDS Clean Up Campaign-1
Missionaries organized the project as part of a church activity “San Pedro Service Week,” a week full of activities designed to get the community excited about serving others. Other planned activities include visiting the elderly, making cards for the sick, and a youth-focused service night. Maria de Leon also loved the activity, saying, “I feel happy and satisfied because we gave service where we live. It’s an island we have to keep clean!”LDS Clean Up Campaign-2
