The team from Xsite Belize Sailing and Adventures, a tour company on Ambergris Caye, has been busy beautifying different areas of San Pedro Town. While the island and country have gone into slow mode, the team has been painting the side of easements/alleys, streets, and public buildings with the sole purpose to keep San Pedro fresh, beautiful, and welcoming.
The beautifying initiative is headed by Tammy Lemus of Xsite Belize Sailing and Adventures, who along with members of her staff and other volunteers have managed to transform several areas of the town core that seemed abandoned and needed some polishing. Lemus said that since the COVID-19 pandemic has halted the tourism business, they thought this project would keep them busy, and make the island look more beautiful for locals and visitors in the meantime.
Some of the areas that have benefited from this project include the public library opposite of the Roman Catholic Primary School and parks, and the team is even removing unpleasant graffiti from the walls of public buildings. The team has also painted most alleys leading to the beach. The crew plans to continue beautifying more side streets and other areas in need of a facelift.
According to Lemus, the project has been both rewarding and satisfying. They are grateful for help from generous donors and a BIG thank you goes out to the Victoria House, Sunbreeze Hotel, The Yacht Club, Mahogany Bay Village, Spindrift Hotel, Atlantic Bank and their staff, Wild Mangos, PUR, Palapa Bar and Grill and SP Hardware.
