Training in the Application of Biodiversity Related Laws of Belize
The training is a part of an ongoing series of initiatives being implemented by the Ministry with financial support provided by the Protected Areas Conservation Trust. It was designed to inform its participants of the application of the National Protected Areas Systems Act and other related legislation. Other training in the series will include training in use of SMART Technologies and field navigation.

In order to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, the Government of Belize has commenced the updating of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). To complement this effort, Belize has also taken the opportunity to facilitate the formulation of a Low Emission Development Strategy and Action Plan (LEDS), for the period 2020-2050. In this regard, a LEDS is a country-led and country-specific planning document covering all economic sectors for promoting economic growth and sustainable development, while reducing the emissions of Greenhouse Gases.

One of two dredging projects still on halt; court hearings expected soon
One infraction involved illegal dredging on the north-western side of the island within the Hol Chan Marine Reserve (HCMR). The second large scale dredging/sand reclamation project on the southern end of the island has reportedly resumed activities after they were temporarily stopped for allegedly breaching their permits.

"As the newly assigned Minister of the Blue Economy, I have been following with interest the recent developments regarding the proposed Port of Belize Cruise and Cargo Expansion Project. I have had the opportunity to be updated by our Fisheries Department as well as other concerned environmental non-governmental organizations that are all important players in the development of the new Blue Economy model. We have been listening to the concerns of those that have been studying and opposing this project ever since it was proposed under the previous government as well as the consultants for the Port of Belize Cruise Project. I have also had the opportunity to dialogue with the Prime Minister and other ministers on this matter. "
