Belize and UAE sign Open Skies Agreement

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), signed an open skies agreement with the Government of Belize on Saturday, May 6th. On behalf of UAE, Director-General of the GCAA, Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi, and Belize, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation of Belize Honorable Manuel Heredia Jr., signed the significant agreement that will eliminate all restrictions on international air transport movement.
Now, whether owned or leased, designated carriers of both parties will operate with full flexibility on routes, capacity, frequency and all types of aircraft. It will also exercise the fifth freedom traffic rights: ‘The right to fly between two foreign countries on a flight originating or ending in one’s own country.’
Suwaidi said that conducting air services agreements with other countries plays a crucial role due to its positive effect in boosting investment and tourism, which will strengthen business ties between the UAE and other countries.
Laila Ali Bin Hareb Al Muhairi, Assistant Director General of Strategy and International Affairs, said that the agreement will guarantee sustainable growth for the national carriers of both countries. It will also help support plans and investments related to air transport, which are targeted by the national carriers in the UAE.
The UAE is currently working to sign open skies agreements with other countries, and looks forward to broaden trade relations with various countries of the world.
