Belize attended the XVIII SICA Japan Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation in San Salvador, El Salvador from December 2-3, 2019. The Forum welcomed the delegation of Japan headed by H.E. Tomoyuki Yoshida, Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Under the auspices of the Presidency Pro tempore of El Salvador, SICA Member States expressed appreciation to the Government of Japan for its kind regional cooperation through the SICA-Japan Regional Cooperation Action Plan 2015-2020 in areas such as the JICA Program, Regional Master Plan for Transportation and Logistics, the implementation of an emergency warning broadcasting system, empowering women and gender equality, citizens’ security, integral management of natural disasters and the effects of climate, among others. Similarly, SICA Member States dialogued on international fora topics such as the United Nations Reform process, the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals and the Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
The SICA-Japan Regional Cooperation Program is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the five pillars of the Central American Integration System namely, Economic Integration, Social Integration, Climate Change and Integrated Risk Management, Democratic Security and Institutional Strengthening.
