$47 Million Loan Approved for Early Childhood and Women’s Empowerment
On June 5th, the House of Representatives approved a US$23.5 million (BZ$47 million) loan from the International Development Association to fund Belize’s Early Childhood Development and Female Empowerment Project. Members of the House voted in favor of the loan during a session in Belmopan, endorsing a program to expand access to quality early childhood education and create greater economic opportunities for women across Belize, including in communities such as San Pedro.

Belize Assumes CDB Leadership Role and Lands Major Climate Investment
On June 5th, Belize officially assumed the Chairmanship of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Board of Governors and secured $20.2 million in climate resilience funding. The handover took place during the closing ceremony of the 56th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors in Nassau, Bahamas. Dr. Osmond Martinez, Minister of State for Economic Transformation and Belize’s Alternate Governor to the CDB, accepted the Chairmanship on behalf of Prime Minister John Briceño.

Change in the Pump Price of Fuel Effective March 25, 2020
The Ministry of Finance announces that on Wednesday, March 25th, the pump price for diesel will decrease by 99 cents from $9.24 to $ 8.25 per gallon. The prices for premium gasoline, regular gasoline, and kerosene will remain unchanged at $10.92, $10.23, and $6.62 per gallon, respectively.
