On Wednesday, March 17, 2021, Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, and Ms. Carla Alvarez, Principal Education Officer and CECC/SICA Focal Point, participated in an Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Education of CECC/ SICA (Central American Region).
The purpose of the meeting was to share regional experiences and strategic plans for the Urgent Reopening of Schools for Face-to-Face Instruction.
Hon. Fonseca made presentations on behalf of Belize and highlighted plans for a phased and safe reopening of schools. Minister Fonseca’s position underscored the efforts being made by the Belize COVID-19 Education Task Force to ensure that the gradual reopening of schools will be accomplished in the most responsible manner.
During the meeting, presentations were also made by key partners in education such as UNESCO, UNICEF and the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
