Belize and Japan held their first bilateral consultation on January 11, 2023. The meeting provided an opportunity for the two countries to review the state of play of the bilateral relations inclusive of regional and global developments that influence the relationship.
Both countries exchanged views on their respective domestic and foreign policy priorities. They also discussed various issues including the progress of post-COVID-19 economic recovery, Belize’s Amnesty Programme, climate change, financing for development, and regional and international matters of mutual interest.
Japan remains an important development partner for Belize, engaging actively at the bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels. Belize and Japan will celebrate 41 years of bilateral relations on November 3, 2023.
The delegations were headed by Ambassador Amalia Mai, Chief Executive Officer for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and H.E. Kazuhiro Iryu, Japan’s Ambassador to Belize.
