PM Briceño said he did not chastise US President at Summit of the Americas
During a press briefing on Wednesday, June 15th, the first since he took office in 2020, Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. John Briceño said he did not chastise the United States (US) President Joseph Biden during his speech at the recent Summit of the Americas. Briceño made headlines when he openly criticized the decision of the US host to exclude Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela from the summit held June 6-10 in Los Angeles, California, on the west coast of the US.

Belize Participates in 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization
Hon. Ramon Cervantes, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration, is leading Belize’s delegation to the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. The Ministerial Conference was opened on June 12, 2022, after not being able to convene for nearly five years. The conference comes at a critical juncture for international trade which continues to face global challenges that ultimately affect the cost of living for Belizeans.

Launch of the Online Payment System (E-KYASH) for Temporary Employment Permit (TEP) Application
On June 09, 2022, the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, in partnership with the E-Governance and Digitalization Unit, the Ministry of Finance, and the Belize Bank Limited, launched an online payment system for Temporary Employment Permit Applications via the Belize Bank Limited E-kyash platform.

With a focus on "Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future," the Ninth (IX) Summit of the Americas was held in Los Angeles, California, in the United States of America. From June 6th to the 10th, country leaders from north, south, and central America gathered to address the hemisphere's challenges and opportunities within the partnership. Representing Belize was Prime Minister Honorable Dr. John Briceño, who delivered his address at the Plenary Session of the IX Summit of the Americas.

U.S.-Donation to Increase Law Enforcement Presence in Remote Areas
With the assistance of the U.S. government, Belize will begin the process of establishing a forward operating base in the southwest to facilitate law enforcement anti-crime operations. On June 7, 2022, the U.S. Embassy donated two 40 ft. containers to the Government of Belize.
