BRS Area Representative Hon. Andre Perez talks about future plans
After the November 2020 victory for the People's United Party and consequently forming the new government, the administration believes that the country's challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic are improving. Area Representative for Belize Rural South (BRS) (Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker), Honourable Andre Perez, said during an interview with The San Pedro Sun that he now feels confident in delivering on all his main promises because the economy is in better shape. The work ahead is to finish the health center in Caye Caulker, build a hospital for San Pedro Town, develop infrastructure (bridge and roads), build schools north of San Pedro Town, and develop other important programs.

On March 1, 2022, the Government of Belize participated in the Preparatory Meeting with the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB) Governors of Belize, Central America, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. The IDB Group presented their analyses on the New Value Proposition: “Social Inclusion Agenda + Private Sector Investment + Climate Action = Sustainable and Inclusive Growth”.

Belize Represented at UNEA 5.2 and UNEP@50
Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management, lead a delegation to the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 5.2) and United Nations Environment Programme 50th Anniversary (UNEP @50) in Nairobi, Kenya from February 28 to March 4, following an invitation by the UNEA and UNEP Secretariat.

The CARICOM-SICA summit was deemed successful and an extraordinary opportunity to further strengthen ties with the Caribbean and Central American regions. The CARICOM-SICA countries have contended with the worst economic recession in modern history. Therefore, the path to recovery should be aligned with a new regional plan that creates prosperity for the countries involved and their people.

The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government is pleased to announce the appointment of a Minimum Wage Task Force to oversee the implementation of the five-dollar minimum wage commitment of Plan Belize. The task force conducted its inaugural meeting today at the ministry's conference room in Belmopan.

Central American leaders arrive on Ambergris Caye for the CARICOM/SICA Meeting
On Wednesday, March 2nd, islanders should expect temporary interruptions in the traffic around downtown San Pedro and armed security personnel as presidents and vice presidents from different Central American countries arrive on the island. The dignitaries are attending the CARICOM/SICA meeting north of San Pedro. On Thursday, March 3rd, the one-day event welcomes these government leaders to discuss ways to strengthen the relationship between the Caribbean Community and the Central American Integration System members, among other topics of interest.
