OIRSA Hands Over Small Hive Beetle Traps
On February 7, 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise received a donation of 800 small hive beetle traps from the International Regional Organization for Agricultural Health (OIRSA). The donated traps were purchased from Australia and have a total value of US$3,637.

Re-opening of land borders and seaports set for Monday; restrictions apply
Monday, February 7th, the land borders and seaports with Guatemala and Mexico will fully re-open. The government has been working on specific measures to avoid any potential COVID-19 outbreak. Some of these requirements indicate that only fully vaccinated persons can travel through these borders. No COVID-19 test will be required for trips less than 24 hours upon returning to Belize. However, for any overnight traveling, a test is needed to enter the country at the cost of $100 per person.

Curfew will continue
The curfew extension starts on Monday, February 7th remaining at 11PM from Sundays to Thursdays and 12-midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. This has been the government’s primary measure to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The new extension will expire on March 6, 2022.

Belize and Mexico Hold Ministerial Meeting to Discuss Formal Trade Agreement
On February 2, 2022, Belize and Mexico met virtually to advance discussions for a trade agreement between the two countries. Belize's delegation was led by the Hon. Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration, while the Mexican delegation was led by Señora Tatiana Clouthier Carrillo, Secretary of the Economy.

National Energy Use Survey for Belize Energy Sector Planning
The Government of Belize and the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) have jointly received grant funding from the Global Environment Facility via The World Bank to finance the project entitled “Energy Resilience for Climate Adaptation” (ERCAP), with co-financing by BEL.

CCJ rulings not favorable for Belize
Over the past few days, the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) has delivered judgments on matters involving the Government of Belize (GOB). The court handed down decisions unfavorable for Belize, first in the lawsuit against Trinidad and Tobago for allegedly breaching their obligations under the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas. The second item involved an appeal between GOB and a private landowner, the Belmopan Land Development Corporation Limited (BLDC).

Remaining Venezuelan nationals deemed inadmissible removed from the country
The remaining ten Venezuelan nationals, part of a larger group of travelers found inadmissible to enter the country on January 18th, finally left over the weekend. The travelers who arrived in Belize from Panama via COPA Airlines returned to Panama via TAG Airlines on Saturday, January 29th, after being cleared of COVID-19. Even though seven of these persons requested asylum through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Belize on Friday, January 28th, their request was denied.
