U.S. Embassy Donates Vehicles to Support the Fight Against Crime in Belize
U.S. Embassy Belmopan presented six vehicles to the Government of Belize on Thursday, October 14th as a security donation to the Police Department and the Customs and Excise Department to deter and disrupt criminal activities in remote areas and to expand law enforcement training opportunities for officers throughout Belize.

Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) Sign Letter of Intent on Women Empowerment Project
On October 13, 2021, Hon. Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration; and H.E David Kuan-Chou Chien, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize, formally signed a letter of intent for the project entitled, “Enhancing the Economic Empowerment of Women in Latin America and the Caribbean in the COVID-19 Post-Pandemic Era: Technical Assistance for Women Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Financial Inclusion”.

COVID-19 regulations: Curfew extended; only vaccinated patrons allowed in restaurants
On Thursday, October 14th, the Government of Belize released Statutory Instrument (SI) No. 119 regarding regulations to control the spread of COVID-19. Among some of the rules in the SI, is the extension of the current 9PM curfew and requiring employees from restaurants, saloons, diners, and its customers to be immunized.

Prime Minister sees the possibility to connect Ambergris Caye with Mexico
Following Prime Minister John Briceño's state visit to Mexico last month, the idea to connect northern Ambergris Caye with the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula via a bridge was one of the proposed projects discussed. Mexico is currently working on a 948-mile intercity railway system dubbed 'Tren Maya,' beginning from Palenque, Chiapas traveling northeast to Quintana Roo and Yucatan near Belize. The aim is to connect tourist destinations in the said region by offering access to pristine destinations and even hop across the border into Belize.

Belize NDA to GCF Meets with Ambassador of Japan
Dr. Osmond Martinez, chief executive officer and National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment along with Mr. Leroy Martinez, economist/GCF focal point recently met with H.E. Kazuhiro Iryu, Ambassador of Japan to Belize. The meeting was held on October 11, 2021, at the ministry’s conference room in Belmopan.
