European Union Supports Modernisation of Ministry of Finance with New IT – Equipment
To support the modernisation of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Aniceto Rodriguez, Head of Cooperation of the European Union (EU) to Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas, handed over to Mr. Joseph Waight, Financial Secretary, new information technology (IT) equipment for the ministry.

Cabinet Brief for 5th October 2021
Cabinet met with a few members of the COVID-19 Health Advisory Task Force for an update on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic and to make recommendations for the coming months. The group of medical doctors advised Cabinet that while progress was being made in terms of the number of persons vaccinated, the public must continue to take all precautions since this third wave has not yet peaked. In addition, the team of doctors presented a series of recommendations, for Cabinet’s consideration, to aid in preventing the spread of COVID-19. These recommendations would cover the period from October to December 2021 and will be announced shortly by the Ministry of Health & Wellness.

Prime Minister Hon. Briceño declares his state visit to Mexico successful; Mexico donates second batch of COVID-19 vaccines
On Saturday, October 2nd, Prime Minister Honourable John Briceño and his delegation returned to Belize after a week-long state visit to Mexico. During the visit, the prime minister joined Mexicans in celebrating their 200th anniversary of independence, held bilateral meetings with officials and Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, and returned to the country with another batch of AstraZeneca vaccines against COVID-19 courtesy of the Mexican government.

Belize Receives Second Batch of COVID-19 Vaccines from Mexico
On October 2, 2021, the Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Health & Wellness, received 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Government of the United Mexican States through its embassy in Belize. The handing over ceremony was held at the Philip Goldson S.W. Goldson International Airport.

Ministry of Health & Wellness Announces New COVID-19 Measures
The Ministry of Health & Wellness hereby notifies the public that in an effort to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the curfew hours have been adjusted. Effective today, Monday, October 4, 2021, the curfew hours will revert to 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. daily.Â

CDC and Baylor College of Medicine Partner to Bring COVID Sequencing to Belize
On September 29, Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat joined U.S. Embassy Belmopan Medical Officer Sarah Kieffer and Dr. Kristy Murray, Director of the Center for Human Immunobiology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, on a tour of the Belize Central Laboratory to view donated genomic sequencing equipment used to detect COVID-19 variants in Belize.

Change: COVID-19 regulation mandating vaccination card or negative test applies only when accessing government buildings
The government has made changes to the new COVID-19 regulations set to start on October 1st. The new measures, designed to contain the spread of the virus, mandates that people provide proof of vaccination or a negative test to access public buildings and services. The new change, as per Minister of Health and Wellness Honourable Michel Chebat, will only apply to government-owned buildings.

Ministry of Infrastructure and Development launch nationwide housing pilot program
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing has launched a pilot housing program aiming to construct 150 starter homes to benefit deserving Belizeans. These individuals will be selected through an application process. An application can be obtained by emailing the ministry at housing.project@midh.gov.bz. Following the pilot phase, the housing program is expected to roll out in the next fiscal year.
