New Taiwanese Ambassador visits San Pedro Town
His Excellency Taiwanese Ambassador David Kuan-Chou Chien paid a visit to San Pedro Town on Saturday, May 15th. He met with Area Representative the Honourable Andre Perez, Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez, and their teams. They engaged in important discussions on how the island authorities can work together with the Taiwanese Embassy.

World Health Organization Lists SINOPHARM COVID-19 Vaccine for Emergency Use
National Biotec Group. On April 8, 2021, the Government of Belize received a donation of 10,000 doses of the SINOPHARM BIBP COVID-19 vaccine from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). At this time, the ministry is preparing to include this vaccine into its COVID-19 vaccine schedule. The public will be informed of that date accordingly.

Launch of the National Trade Negotiating Commission
On May 14th, 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration held its inaugural meeting of the National Trade Negotiating Commission (NTNC) at the Best Western Plus Belize Biltmore Plaza in Belize City. In February 2021, Cabinet approved the establishment of the NTNC, a tripartite commission of government, private sector and civil society actors to inform Cabinet’s decision-making process for relevant national trade and trade-related issues, and where appropriate to participate in negotiations.

Island teachers hold candlelight vigil in continued protest
As unions across the country continue their strike opposing the 10% salary cut by the government, members of the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) in San Pedro Town held a candlelight vigil on Friday, May 7th. The event took place at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium. The vigil included a church service.

Israel Honorary Consul in Belize donates care packages for people living with diabetes during the pandemic
The Government of the State of Israel, through its diplomatic missions and consulates around the world, aims to carry out its humanitarian responsibilities wherever and whenever action is required. In honour of the 73rd anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel, through the Honorary Consul of Israel to Belize, Ms. Rose Wischenka, a donation of care packages for people living with diabetes was made to help improve their quality of life and increase public awareness to their unique challenges during the pandemic.
