Government of Belize Receives Humanitarian Relief Donation from Brazil
On December 18, 2020, the Government of Belize received a donation of humanitarian relief which includes food items, hygiene kits, water and mattresses from the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil to assist in the aftermath of Tropical Depression ETA and floods caused by Hurricane Iota.

IDB Invest contributes to energy security in Belize by financing the National Gas Company Limited
IDB Invest, member of IDB Group, provided a US$6 million loan to National Gas Company (Belize) for the construction, operation, and maintenance of a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) marine terminal, the first of its kind in the country of Belize. The terminal is situated in the southern region of Belize, at the Port in Big Creek, and will have 18 product tanks and a blending tank. The National Gas Company started its operations in May 2020.

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) approves funding for project “Belize Development Finance Corporation Capacity Strengthening for accreditation to the Green Climate Fund”
Consistent with this objective, the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) expressed its desire to become accredited to the GCF as a Direct Access Entity (DAE). This will facilitate the mobilization of GCF resources to finance climate resilient credit interventions. As such, the National Designated Authority (NDA) of Belize to the GCF, under the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) have engaged with Development Finance Corporation to develop a project “Belize Development Finance Corporation Capacity Strengthening for Accreditation to the Green Climate Fund”.

National lockdown is not on the government’s agenda
With the alarming spike of countrywide cases of COVID-19, some Belizeans are asking for a national lockdown to contain the surge in infections. Although the idea of lockdowns has never sat well with Prime Minister Honourable John Briceño, on Monday, December 15th, he shared that the precaution has not been ruled out.

Ministry of National Defence and Border Security Meets with San Vicente Alcalde and Village Council
Hon. Florencio Marin, Minister of National Defence and Border Security, and Hon. Oscar Mira, Minister of State, visited San Vincente, Toledo District to meet with the village council. The purpose of the meeting was to address the issue between the Belize Defence Force (BDF) soldiers stationed in the village, following an incident which occurred on November 29, 2020.
