Belize PM Dean Barrow addresses the nation re: COVID-19 Financial: "...we are looking at a larger than 450 million-dollar, pandemic-induced recurrent revenue shortfall for this fiscal year." Health: Once Belize reaches the 28-day milestone of 0 new covid cases, a further relaxation of some of the remaining restrictions will be considered.

Five Men Charged for Illegal Activities within a Wildlife Sanctuary
The public was advised on April 2, 2020, of the closure of all protected areas to visitors and the public for the duration of the state of emergency. There remained, however, the duty of safeguarding all assets and resources from potential illegal activities and vandalism/theft of physical and natural assets on the sites.As a result of enforcement activities, on April 24, 2020, Jose Angel Maravilla, Juaquin Ico, Florencio Choc, Elsueio Cho and Alfus Edwards, all of San Roman Village in the Stann Creek District were charged for the offenses of: 1) Illegal Entry into a Wildlife Sanctuary 2) Illegal Hunting within a Wildlife Sanctuary and 3) Illegal Fishing within a Wildlife Sanctuary.

Closure of COVID-19 Unemployment Relief Program Online Portal
The Economic Oversight Team informs the public that the online portal for the Unemployment Relief Program has been closed to new applications. The portal opened to receive applications on April 3, 2020 and up to the time of closure at 4:00 p.m. today, April 24th, a total of 81,007 applications were received.

U.S. Government to Donate Equipment to Ministry of National Security to Assist Counternarcotic Efforts
On April 23, the United States Government donated over $400,000 USD worth of communications equipment and Boston Whaler sustainment parts to the Belize Ministry of National Security. The donation is part of the U.S. Southern Command’s continued partnership with Belize and was funded by the U.S. counternarcotics program.
