Belize advances in climate change adaptation planning and disaster risk management with support from UB and IDB
BELIZE CITY, Belize – Sixteen students representing private and public-sector organizations successfully completed and graduated today from a seminar entitled ‘Climate Change Adaptation Planning for the Coastal Zone’. The 3-month seminar was executed by the University of Belize Environmental Research Institute (UB ERI) with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

SPTC addresses non-registered property owners and those owing taxes
In early October of this year, the Government of Belize (GOB) announced that it would be implementing the Land Tax Amnesty Programme, after it was passed by the House of Representatives and approved by the Senate in September.While the programme served as an engine to write off millions of dollars in taxes, it also offers the opportunity for land owners who owe property taxes to settle or manage the arrears within a period of six months beginning from October 2019.

UNHCR trains journalists in the proper coverage of refugee stories
Hoping to increase media personnel’s knowledge on issues regarding asylum seekers and refugees, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) hosted a workshop on Saturday, November 2nd, in Belize City. The all-day event taught journalists from across the country on properly reporting sensitive issues involving vulnerable persons to avoid causing harm or exposing them to danger. The seminar also covered the statistics of refugees in Belize, their origins, and a view of this global phenomenon.

Belize signs loan agreement with IDB to strengthen tax administration
The Prime Minister of Belize, Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow and Country Representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Dr. Cassandra T. Rogers signed a loan agreement on November 1st in the amount of US$14 million to strengthen tax administration in Belize.
