The donation was orchestrated by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), a governmental agency dedicated to providing grant aid programs and supporting the sustainable socioeconomic growth of partner countries like Belize.

UK Armed Forces to continue training in Belize: Revised Status of Forces Agreement signed
The revised SOFA and its Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Minister of National Security, Honorable John Saldivar, on behalf of the Government of Belize (GOB) and the UK Minister of Defense, Right Honorable Mark Lancaster. The SOFA is an agreement that allows the UK to have military forces stationed in Belize without it being considered an act of military occupation.

Presentation of Credentials to the Governor General of Belize
In their address to the Governor General, H.E. Mr. Eric Mayoraz, Ambassador of Switzerland; H.E. Mr. José Renato Sepúlveda Nebel, Ambassador of Chile; and H.E. Island authorities in Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye seek more autonomy for better decision-making
Some problems include the assignation of personnel to run the islands’ Transport Department and the approval of high-rise buildings. Island leaders take issue with the assignations, as they include members from the mainland, making the decision process on important island matters frustrating.

Prime Minister of Belize Meets with President of Cuba
The President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, accompanied by Cuba’s First Lady, Lis Cuesta, and Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla, met with Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, his wife Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow, and Ambassador of Belize H.E. Annie Burns, in a frank and friendly exchange on areas of common interest. The group discussed challenges, achievements and cooperation between the countries.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Laura Tucker Longsworth, was in El Salvador for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Forum of Presiding Officers of Parliaments of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (FOPREL) and the Central American Integration System (SICA).

UK Donates Funds to Support Public Awareness Campaign on ICJ Referendum
On Wednesday, September 5th 2018, the United Kingdom (UK) contributed 1.3 million Belize Dollars to the Public Awareness and Preparedness Campaign to support the referendum on whether or not to refer Guatemala’s territorial, insular, and maritime claim to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The funds will be administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Mass voter re-registration process comes to an end
A total of 121, 496 people were re-registered to vote during the Elections and Boundaries Department campaign throughout the country from Monday, July 2nd to Friday, August 31st.
