The Belize Port Authority (BPA) under the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy & Logistics and the International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize (IMMARBE) recently participated in two critical international climate meetings convened by the International Maritime Organization (IMO): the 19th Session of the Intersessional Working Group on the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Ships (ISWG-GHG 19) and the 83rd Session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 83). US Government pauses reciprocal tariffs on most countries for 90 days
On Wednesday, April 9th, the United States announced a 90-day pause on the newly implemented reciprocal tariff rates, which included a 10% tariff on imports from various trade partners, including Belize. President Donald Trump's administration clarified that China would not receive any exemptions and is facing steeper tariff rates of up to 125%. During the 72nd ordinary meeting of the Regional International Agricultural Health Committee (CIRSA-OIRSA), Belize officially assumed the presidency on April 3rd. The Honourable Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, represented the country in this role. The two-day event, held in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, brought together Agriculture Ministers and Secretaries from across the region to discuss key issues related to agricultural health and food security.
