U.S. Government Donates Essential Equipment to Support Belize Security Operations
As part of the U.S. Embassy’s Commitment to enhancing ѕесurіtу соореrаtіоn throughout the rеgіоn, the U.S. Bureau of International Narcotics & Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), and the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) have provided the Government of Belize with capability enhancement which includes IT equipment, vehicle maintenance equipment, boat engines, and a bomb disposal suit. The support was given to the Belize Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JOIC), Belize Coast Guard, and Belize Defence Force.

Joint Cooperation Commission between the Governments of Belize and Panama Holds First Meeting
Her Excellency Amalia Mai, Chief Executive Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and Her Excellency Yill Otero, Panama's Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs and Cooperation, co-chaired the First Meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission between the Government of the Republic of Panama and the Government of Belize, for the bilateral programme 2024-2026. The meeting was held at Padre Guardia Jaén Hall of the Bolívar Palace, Panama City, Panama.

The Committee also reviewed an application for hemp research. A key focus of the meeting was the policy for approving hemp for research and investments in Belize.

The presenters also outlined that the project will bolster the island's and country's management capacity for sustainable development of the blue economy.

Academy for Law's “Needham Point Declaration on Criminal Justice Reform: Achieving A Modern Criminal Justice System” with the aim to reduce the backlogs in the criminal justice system.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries procured eight double-cab 4x4 Isuzu D-Max vehicles as a component of a concerted effort to strengthen its security force fleet. The vehicles were handed over to the Belize Police Department.

Department of Environment participates in International Plastics Treaty negotiations
Belize enacted the Environmental Protection (Pollution from Plastics) Regulations in 2020, which prohibits the importation of single-use plastic bags and Styrofoam products. The aim of the legislation is to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of plastic pollution. The Department of the Environment, within the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, regulates the provisions of the law and is currently evaluating its implementation.
