BELTRAIDE Holds Consultations with Blue Economy Stakeholders to Improve Investments in the Sector

The Government of Belize has identified investment in priority sectors, as a key driver of economic development. BELTRAIDE is supporting the Inter- American Development (IDB) in building a strategy to attract foreign direct investment specifically in the Blue Economy, to complement existing business operations. The development of the strategy is being led by OCO Global, a technology based advisory firm focused on trade, investment, and economic development.

Belize congratulates El Salvador on peaceful election

Through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Government of Belize officially congratulated the people of El Salvador for the peaceful process of their recent presidential elections. The elections held on February 4th saw millions of Salvadorans voting in and from outside of El Salvador, including in Belize, where residents with connections with that country also voted.

Belize Delegation Attends 37th IDB Governors Meeting

The Inter-American Development Bank's (IDB) 37th Meeting of Governors of the Central American Isthmus and the Dominican Republic was held in Antigua, Guatemala, from February 5 to 6. The high-level meeting was poised to foster critical discussions on regional economic integration, infrastructure development, and bilateral cooperation.

Government Hosts Information Sharing Session with Fiscal Incentives Program Beneficiary Companies

The Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Investment, in collaboration with the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU), BELTRAIDE and the Economic Development Council, hosted an information-sharing and networking session with companies that are current beneficiaries of the Fiscal Incentives (FI) Program. The session took place at the University of the West Indies Conference Room, Belize City.

GOB explains draft Toledo Maya land tenure policy

The Government of Belize (GOB) has set the record straight about its proposed draft Toledo Maya customary land tenure policy, for which it is holding public consultations with all 41 Maya villages of the Toledo district with a review of the policy that is to become law by 2025.

Compulsory education age in Belize increased from 14 to 16

On Friday, February 2nd, the National Assembly of Belize passed legislation to raise Belize’s compulsory education age to 16. Before this, education was mandatory for children between five and 14 years of age. The Education and Training Act of 2011 amendment means that children will be legally required to remain in school until they’re 16.

Belize Calls on the Reinstatement of Funds to UNRWA

The Government of Belize is deeply concerned over the decision of 16 donor countries to suspend contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. The UNRWA is the principal UN body providing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.

Belize takes Next Step as a Global Leader in Natural Capital and Innovative Finance Solutions

On January 30, the Government of Belize, led by the Ministry of Economic Development in collaboration with the Blue Bond and Finance Permanence Unit and the Coastal Zone Management Authority & Institute, partnered with Stanford University’s Natural Capital Project (NatCap) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to convene a workshop titled "Monitoring Progress Toward a Prosperous, Sustainable Future."
