Construction of the San Pedro and Caye Caulker General Hospital commences with a groundbreaking ceremony

Residents and visitors of Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker are one step closer to having reliable healthcare services. More than a year after the official announcement of the San Pedro and Caye Caulker General Hospital, the Government of Belize hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, March 1st, to mark the start of construction. This $33 million project is made possible through a grant from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The Elections and Boundaries Department (EBD) is pleased to announce the launch of the Belize Municipal Elections 2024 App— an innovative and interactive platform that will provide reliable and timely information on voter turnout as well as the results of the upcoming elections, to be held on Wednesday, 6 March 2024.

Public Notice: Establishments issued violation Tickets

The Supplies Control Unit in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise hereby informs the public that a third round of establishment inspections for compliance with provisions of the new Supplies Control (Prices) Regulations was carried out in February 2024. During this period, a total of 35 establishments were issued tickets for violations of the regulations in San Pedro Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker in the Belize District.

UNDP partners with the Statistical Institute of Belize and Ministry of Economic Development to enhance the country’s ability to assess and address poverty

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Economic Development signed an agreement to partner with the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) on the development and implementation of an annual Monetary Poverty Measure (MPM) and to assist in the continued development of the national Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) statistics program. This support will serve to enhance the country’s capacity to assess and address poverty, including through its policymaking processes.

The Firearms and Ammunition Control Board Announces the Implementation of an Audit and a Moratorium being placed on Firearm Licenses of .223 Caliber Rifles

The Firearms and Ammunition Control Board, in accordance with its mandate, has passed a motion to request that an audit be carried out to look into the past authority and the procedures involved in the processing of firearm licenses. This decision comes as part of the Board's commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of firearms and ammunition in Belize.

Belize continues to seek a Schengen Visa waiver

The Government of Belize has been advocating for Belizeans to be able to travel to the European Union (EU) without the need to apply for a Schengen Visa. The discussions continue as the matter has become a priority for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. Belizeans needing to travel to the EU are required to conduct their visa process in Mexico City, Mexico, as there are no European embassies in Belize.

Belize removed from EU list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes

The European Union (EU) has removed Belize from the list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes, providing relief to the country’s financial services. This decision was made on Tuesday, February 20th, after the Belizean government made significant efforts towards compliance with the EU. The announcement also brought good news for other countries such as The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Seychelles, which were also removed from the blacklist.
