Environment and Development concerns discussed at High Level Ministerial Meeting

A series of events involving the Central American Commission for Environment and Development Council of Ministers is happening north of San Pedro Town at the Grand Caribe beach resort. The Government of Belize (GOB) is hosting the event as the President Pro Tempore under the Central American Integration System (SICA), with the Honourable Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management, presiding over the meetings.

National Meteorological Service of Belize Receives Weather Equipment

On February 7, 2023, the Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation (MBECA), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative for Belize and Belize’s National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), handed-over the National Meteorological Service of Belize (NMS) with weather equipment to monitor sea level and upgrade some functionalities of the ‘SURFACE’ Climate Database Management System (CDMS).

Belize Hosts Council of Ministers Meeting of the Central American Commission for Environment and Development

Belize hosted the first Central American Commission for Environment and Development (CCAD) Council of Ministers Meeting as President Pro Tempore under the Central American Integration System (SICA). Honorable Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, presided over the proceedings at the Grand Caribe Hotel Resort in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

Cuban President to visit Belize this weekend

Sunday, February 12th, for the first time, a Cuban President will visit Belize. His Excellency (H.E.) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez will arrive in the country and attend a Special Sitting of the National Assembly, a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Honourable Dr. John Briceño. The program will also see the leaders signing two agreements.

Pronouncements on Maya Land Rights

In light of recent public statements, the Government of Belize reaffirms its commitment to full compliance with the terms of the Consent Order of the Caribbean Court of Justice and to the implementation of a Maya Land Policy, which not only affords protection to the rights of the Maya people recognized by our courts but also addresses the concerns of other Belizeans which underpin the comments of Honourable Michael Espat. Finding an appropriate balance requires considerable deliberations both by expert consultants and the Cabinet sub-committee engaged in the process.

Government of Belize, UNICEF and SIB Sign MOU for MICS7
