Anti-human trafficking program launched in Belize

On Wednesday, January 11th, an anti-human trafficking program was launched in Belize. The general public and private sector stakeholders convened at a venue in Belize City to witness the launch of the Transportation Leaders Empowered through Education, Awareness, and Effective Policy Change on Human Trafficking program in Belize. The program, called TLEAP Belize in its short version, intends to tackle the trafficking of persons in the country and is being implemented by RET International via funding from the Central American Region Security Initiative of the United States government.

Ministry of Agriculture Hosts Meeting with Onion Producers

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise along with the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC) held an onion production meeting on January 11, 2023 with onion producers from Corozal and Orange Walk districts at the Corozal ITVET.

On January 9, 2023, the Ministry of Health & Wellness received a donation of 5,000 disposable non-surgical isolation gowns and 1,200 units of sanitizers from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Belize Receives Donation of Hurricane Relief Funds and Vehicles from the Republic of Korea

Ambassador Amalia Mai, CEO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, received, on behalf of the Government of Belize, humanitarian assistance from the people and Government of the Republic of Korea. The donation of US$100,000 to the World Food Programme (WFP) was handed over by H.E. Sung-min Jang, Senior Secretary for Policy Coordination and Planning, Office of the President.

Prime Minister Announces Ministerial Re-assignment

Minister of State Hon. Ramon Cervantes, Jr. will now support Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, assisting with responsibility for NEMO, the Belize National Fire Service and the Belize Solid Waste Management Authority.

Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Regulations Amended

Further to Cabinet’s press release issued on December 24, 2022, the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government notifies the public that Statutory Instrument No. 175 of 2022 provides for the repeal and replacement of several sub-sections under Regulation 5 of the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Regulations, Subsidiary Laws, 2003, which provides for the Hours of Closing for Licensed Premises.

Government of Belize Continues to Strengthen National Defence and Border Security

On December 21, 2022, Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, handed over 10 Troop Lifting Vehicles to the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security.
