Donation of Buildings and Vehicles Broadens U.S. Security Assistance to Belize

As U.S. support to bolster regional security continues, U.S. Ambassador Michelle Kwan commemorated the donation of five buildings, a fleet of vehicles, and office equipment to the Belize Police Department. At a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters, Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Kareem Musa and Police Commissioner Chester Williams received the donation on behalf of the government and people of Belize.

Guatemala submits second memorial to the ICJ regarding the territorial, insular, and maritime claim over Belize

Guatemala submitted its reply to Belize’s counter-memorial regarding the territorial, insular, and maritime claim to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The case from Guatemala against Belize is to be settled at the international court in the Netherlands, Europe. Now, Belize must submit another reply known as the ‘rejoinder’ on June 8, 2023.

MoHW Strengthens National Cold Chain System through Collaboration with Government of Japan and UNICEF

On December 12, 2022, the Ministry of Health & Wellness received cold chain equipment from the Government of Japan and UNICEF at the National Vaccine Storage Facility in Belmopan. His Excellency Kazuhiro Iryu, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan in Belize, and Alison Parker, UNICEF Representative to Belize, presented the equipment to Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness.

Belize Assumes the Presidency Pro-Tempore of SICA

John Briceño received the Presidency Pro-Tempore (PPT) of the Central American Integration System (SICA) from the outgoing PPT, Mr. Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona, President of the Dominican Republic, at the LVI Meeting of Heads of State and Government of SICA held in Santiago de Caballeros, Dominican Republic.

Ministry of Transport Hosts Public Ground Transportation Workshop

Stakeholders of the Public Ground Transportation sector in Belize participated in a knowledge transfer workshop in Belmopan from December 5 to 8, 2022. The sessions were facilitated by Steer Consulting Firm with focus on policy, legal review, and updates of transport-related laws, while Transconsult provided details for the routing, scheduling and ticketing models.

US Ambassador to Belize Michelle Kwan makes first public appearance and says she is happy to be here

On Wednesday, December 7th, the newly installed United States (US) Ambassador to Belize, Michelle Kwan, made her first public appearance at a US Embassy-hosted candlelight vigil in the Capital City of Belmopan. Kwan and Belize’s Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam, and Belmopan Mayor Sharon Palacio presided over the event honoring the 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
