Amnesty program extended until February 2023

During the November 29th Cabinet meeting, the government approved a three-month extension of the registration period of the current Amnesty program. The program launched in August of this year allows eligible persons in Belize to regularize their immigration status and was to close on November 30th. With the three-month extension, those eligible for the program now have until February 2023.

Cabinet Brief for the 1st December 2022

The Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, met in regular session on 29th November 2022. During the briefing, Cabinet gave its approval for the repeal and replacement of the Financial Services Commission Act, 2020 with the Financial Services Bill to strengthen the regulatory powers of the commission and introduce several key provisions to ensure that it is in line with best international standards and obligations to ensure the integrity and compliance as well as promote Belize’s reputation for conducting and promoting good business

Ministry of Youth, Sports and Transport Technical Visit and Study Tour in South Korea

Knowledge transfer is a key component of capacity building for the Public Transportation Reform Project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank. The delegation participated in lectures and field visits tailored to aid Belize’s public transportation development by adopting applicable solutions from South Korea’s advancement blueprint on the land transportation sector.

Groundbreaking for the “Building Climate Change Resilience and Social Integration of Displaced People in Settlements of Western Belize” Project

The Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) embarked on a project entitled “Building Climate Change Resilience and Social Integration of Displaced People in Settlements of Western Belize.” The ground breaking ceremony was held in Billy White Village on November 24, 2022.

Ministry of Labour Launches Online Labour Complaints Management System

On November 28, 2022, the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government commemorated the launch of a new online Labour Complaints Management System for workers. A critical function of the Labour Department, labour complaints management entails the mediation and settlement of labour disputes between workers and employers.

People’s Constitution Commission Holds Inaugural Meeting

The People’s Constitution Commission (PCC) hosted its inaugural meeting at the House of Culture in Belize City, on November 24, 2022. This follows the launch of the commission on November 14, 2022, where nominated representatives and their alternates were officially sworn into office as commissioners of the PCC.

Prime Minister Hon. John Briceno on official visit to Venezuela

At an official meeting in Caracas, Venezuela, between Prime Minister Honourable John Briceno and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Friday, November 25th, agreements were signed to deepen alliances and to resume Petrocaribe, a regional oil procurement deal between Venezuela and Caribbean countries. According to reports from Venezuela, Belize may start receiving oil from the South American government under special conditions associated with Petrocaribe.

Minister of Agriculture and FAO Sign Country Programming Framework

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) signed the Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2022-2026 on November 24, 2022. This strategic document presents the FAO’s key areas of technical cooperation and medium-term country-level programming in support of the Government of Belize. The document was developed within the framework of the United Nations programming processes, including the UN-Common Country Analysis and the United Nations Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for the Caribbean and the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
