Ministry of Agriculture Receives Nucleic Acid Analyzer

On October 20, 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise received a donation of a POCKIT Central Nucleic Acid Analyzer Machine. The machine was donated by GeneReach Biotechnology Corporation, a Taiwanese company dedicated to bringing innovation to global health management.

GOB Strengthens Vehicle Fleet for First Responders and Highway Patrol

On October 17, 2022, the Ministry of Economic Development, through the Second Road Safety Project, partnered with Traksolutions Belize Ltd. to train municipal bodies and the Department of Transport on the usage of GPS tracking devices. The purpose of the training is to familiarise users with the capabilities and management of this dynamic device that will allow them to gather sensitive data.

Ministry of Labour Establishes Historic Labour Complaints Tribunal

The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government hereby notifies the public that the Labour Complaints Tribunal is now fully appointed and functional for the first time in the history of Belize. The tribunal was appointed by Hon. Oscar Requena as Minister of Labour in accordance with Section 200 of the Labour Act, Chapter 297 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2020, “A Labour Complaints Tribunal shall be established for the purpose of providing a fair and impartial appeal process arising from complaints of unfair dismissal or wrongful termination.”

Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management Hosts First Belize Climate Change Week

The Ministry of Sustainable Dev. Climate Change & Disaster Risk Management through the Belize National Climate Change Office and in collaboration with the Belize National Biodiversity Office hosted the first-ever Belize Climate Change Week from October 11th to 14th, 2022, at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel. The theme is “Enhancing Belize’s Position in Global Climate Action.”

United States Donates Technical Equipment to Improve Case Management in Belize’s Judicial System

As part of ongoing U.S. support for Belize’s judicial reform efforts, the U.S. Embassy donated office and computer equipment to the judiciary to aid in creating enhanced efficiencies in processing court cases. This donation, valued at over US $280,000, is part of a broader U.S. government sponsored Backlog Reduction Program, which also supports legislative reform and the establishment of a digital case management system. Since the program’s inception six months ago, our partnership has resulted in a 42 percent reduction in the court case backlog.

Climate Vulnerability and Livelihood Assessment Validation Consultation

The Government of Belize through the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Representative for Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize, and Belize’s National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), has successfully held four Climate Change Vulnerability and Livelihood Assessment consultations for the coastal zone and fisheries sector of Belize.
