Ministry of Economic Development Supports Climate Resilient Agricultural Practices by Rural Farmers

To address the challenges of market access for Belizean farmers, the Ministry of Economic Development through its Resilient Rural Belize (RRB) Program, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC) on October 6, 2022.

Handing Over of Tourism Security Transportation Vehicles through the Sustainable Tourism Program II

The Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations (MTDR) through the Sustainable Tourism Program II handed over three additional vehicles as part of scheduled program activities under Component Institutional Strengthening geared towards the provision of tourism transportation security vehicles, bringing to date the total number of vehicles handed over to five. These vehicles will assist and improve on the destination management of the tourism sector.

Inauguration of the Visiting Justices Program

On September 30, 2022, the Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries inaugurated the Visiting Justices Program at the Kolbe Foundation, Belize Central Prison. This long-awaited inauguration is timely since the last time the program was utilized was in 2008.

Ms. Nicole Davison is Belize’s new British High Commissioner

Belize has a new British High Commissioner, who recently took over from past Commissioner Claire Evans OBE after retiring from the diplomatic service. The new head of the British High Commission in Belize is Nicole Davison, a veteran in the diplomatic field.

MED and UB Collaborate on Agriculture Scientific Research Project

On September 26, 2022,Dr. Osmond Martinez, Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), and Dr. Geraldo Flowers, Program Manager for Resilient Rural Belize (RRB), went on a site visit at the UB Central Farm Campus with Dr. Vincent Palacio, President of the University of Belize (UB), and his team. The purpose of the visit was to view the progress of a joint research project involving tomato production using covered structures. The tour was conducted by Mr. Maximilliano Ortega, Central Farm Administrator, and Mr. Alfred Serano, RRB Climate Officer.

Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation to Participate in the 41st Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization

The Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation and their partners at the Department of Civil Aviation are set to attend the 41st Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada.

Ministry of Economic Development Signs MOU with Canada-CARICOM Expert Deployment Mechanism

On September 27, 2022, Dr. Osmond Martinez, Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Economic Development, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Mrs. Wendy Harris, President of the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO). On September 6, 2022, Cabinet gave its approval for the Ministry of Economic Development to sign the MOU in connection with the Canada-CARICOM Expert Deployment Mechanism (CCEDM).
