Sembrando Vida Project Kickoff in Orange Walk District
The pilot stage of registration of the Sembrando Vida project took place on August 24 and 25, 2022, in Orange Walk District. Some 186 farmers registered in this phase of the project, which is undertaken by the Mexican Government through the Mexican International Cooperation Agency for Development (AMEXCID), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise.

United States Funds Prosecutorial Training to Strengthen Belize’s Justice System
U.S. Embassy Belmopan and the Government of Belize facilitated a three-day, U.S.- funded workshop to provide comprehensive training on investigating and prosecuting criminal cases for Belize Police Department and National Prosecution Branch personnel. Participants received training on trial preparation, research methods, advocacy, and the examination of evidence, witnesses, and experts. This U.S.-sponsored program supports the Belizean government’s efforts to improve the capacity of police prosecutors and implement a Court Case Management system in its pursuit to acquire international accreditation.

MOHW address issue arising from countrywide nurses walkout
Over the weekend, nurses at the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga Town walked out of their posts in protest for better working conditions, adequate salaries, and compensation. The demonstration was not isolated to Dangriga. On Monday, August 29th, nurses and doctors from the Capital City of Belmopan, San Ignacio Town, Belize City, and Corozal Town in the north of the country joined the demonstration. Minister of Health and Wellness Honourable Kevin Bernard and his team held an emergency meeting in Belmopan with leaders of the Nurses Association of Belize (NAB). After two hours of discussion, they agreed on several suggestions, and Bernard said the situation was resolved.

Gender Responsive Engagement Strategy & Action Plan for the Fisheries Department and CZMAI
The Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation (MBECA) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative for Jamaica, The Bahamas, Belize, and Belize's National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), has organized a consultation for the Gender Responsive Engagement Strategy & Action Plan for the Fisheries Department and Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute. The discussion is a deliverable of the GCF readiness project entitled, Enhancing Adaptation Planning and Increasing Climate Resilience in Belize's Coastal Zone and Fisheries Sector.

BDF to Receive Troop Lifting Vehicles and Office Equipment
On August 26, 2022, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security signed two contracts valuing BZ$3,005,328.16 for the purchase and delivery of 10 troop lifting vehicles and office equipment for use by the Belize Defence Force (BDF).

GOB Receives Third Disbursement of the 2022 Bilateral Cooperation Grant
On August 22, 2022, Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, received a grant from H. E. David Kuan-Chou Chien, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), in the amount of US$750,000. This represents the third disbursement under the 2022 Bilateral Cooperation Program between Belize and Taiwan.
