Smile Clinic returns to Holy Cross

Share

The San Pedro Smile Clinic returned to San Pedro once more, providing dental care to the children at the Holy Cross Anglican School from Monday December 12th through Friday December 15, 2011. This year around, Dr. Jim and Lisa Garrett of Moscow, Idaho in the USA were here offering service along with Dr. Mark Johnson.

This marks the couple’s first trip to Belize, but they promise that it will not be their last. “It’s amazing. The kids have been wonderful. I think in many cases they’re better behaved than American kids. We saw a few problems, some few cavities, but we also saw some kids that through the center have already been helped. We also see a lot of old fillings that are doing very well.”

According to Dr. Garrett, there is still much need for education on home care with kids, on how to brush as well as a constant reminder to brush. He stressed that there is also a need to educate children on the harm sugary foods, such as sodas and candies cause, and that they should be limited in their diets so as to curb the outbreaks of cavities.

The smile clinic continues to brightening smiles and remedy cavities problem to children on the island. As always, services provided included extractions, fillings and cleaning among other dental services. The San Pedro Smile Clinic takes this opportunity to thank everyone who continues to contribute to the continued success of the Smile Clinic.
