Diabetes fundraiser a success

Share

The San Pedro branch of the Belize Diabetes Association (BDA) held a successful fundraiser on Sunday, April 15th at the San Pedro Lion Den. The event started at 10AM and was aimed at raising funds for the association as well as conducting free rapid glucose tests to members of the public.

Community members were generous enough to donate food, which allowed the association to offer chicken barbeque, ceviche, dip, pastries and refreshments. According to the San Pedro BDA members, approximately $1,000 was raised.

Sosa stated that a total of 42 people underwent the rapid glucose testing, five of whom had high blood glucose levels and symptoms of diabetes. The healthy range for glucose levels is 90-120. However, the five who showed symptoms of diabetes had readings ranging from 200 – 300. The San Pedro BTA recommended that they seek professional medical help and further testing.

The San Pedro Branch of the Belize Diabetes Association would like to thank all those that assisted in making their event a success.
