Brightening smiles at Smile Dental Clinic

Share

Every year, the Smile Dental Clinic located at Holy Cross Anglican School hosts several groups of volunteer dentists. From January 26th to February 7th, the clinic will be hosting two different sets of dental professionals from the United States of America. The professionals’ visit is coordinated through Dr. Mark Johnson, who has been the head of the dental clinic at the school since November of 2004.2015 First Smile Clinic-7
The first set of doctors are at the clinic from the 26th to 30th of January and included Dr. Ken Beading of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Dr. Paul Roggow of Jackson, Minnesota and Dental Assistant Rick Bigaouette of Prior Lake, Minnesota. The dentists attended to approximately 100 school children, conducting fillings, extraction, cleanings, applying sealants and giving fluoride treatments.
And while the dental professionals examined the children’s teeth their three wives helped other children with reading problems. Marilyn Crow, Linda Roggow and Julie Bigaouette, who are all teachers, worked along with almost 30 school children at Holy Cross Anglican School in key areas of reading in an effort to improve their reading skills.2015 First Smile Clinic-4
Dr. Mark would like to take the opportunity to thank island volunteers such as Norma Chin, Elizabeth Hudson and Bonnie Musbach, who have been very supportive of the clinic initiatives over the past years. He also took the opportunity to invite the community to the second week of clinic scheduled for February 2nd to the 6th which is open to all students free of charge. The opening hours are from 8AM to 4PM and the clinic will include a visit by a specialized orthodontist.
