San Pedro Lions Club joins relief efforts on the island

Share

As Ambergris Caye remains in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers and community organizations are trying their best to assist vulnerable families most affected by the crisis. The San Pedro Lions Club recently joined in the efforts and donated goods to several families across the island, targeting mainly senior citizens.

According to Vice-President Everette Anderson, they held their first distribution on Monday, April 13th. This work is part of their mission, which is to always be there for the community and help wherever possible. The Club did not approach anyone for donations, but rather, used some of their savings to assist senior citizens identified through their database, including islanders who have always supported them. Anderson added that whenever they head out to distribute the food assistance, they synchronize with other organizations who are doing the same to avoid any duplications. Vice-President Anderson explained that this initiative, funded by the Club, can only be done for two weeks with the second batch of goods distributed on Monday, April 20th.

The San Pedro Lions Club hopes to continue assisting those in need, but to do so, will need donations. They appeal to any interested donor who wants to contribute to their initiative to contact the island’s Lions Club via their Facebook page or by contacting Vice-President Anderson at 600-4856.
