San Pedro Community Blood Drive yields 18 pints
The San Pedro Community, in a united effort, held its second blood drive on Saturday, June 15th, at the Washington University of Health and Science (WUHS) facilities. This collective effort, which saw a significant turnout, resulted in 18 pints of blood collection. This blood, a lifeline for many, was then transported to the blood bank in Belize City, where it is now available to the island community and the country, potentially saving numerous lives.

SPTC partners with local Health Inspector to prepare for mosquito season
Ambergris Caye becomes more prone to mosquito infestation and activity as the rainy season approaches from June through November. Mosquitoes are particularly troublesome during heavy rains, sunrise, and sunset, so the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) is proactively tackling this issue. They plan to use a fogging strategy with a service machine to eliminate mosquito larvae, ensuring the community's safety and comfort during this season.

Island Donors Squad works to improve the country’s emergency blood supply
Island Donors Squad (IDS) is collaborating with Adrian Martinez of the Belize National Blood Transfusion Services (BNTBS) to increase the island's blood reserves through blood drives. Currently facing a blood shortage, IDS is working to meet the needs of seven people, which requires thirty-three pints of blood. IDS has decided to maintain a reserve of five pints above the limit to reduce the necessity for emergency drives. After reaching this threshold, the squad will plan for an emergency drive to ensure an adequate blood supply, thereby minimizing the risk of shortages and the need for individuals to wait in line for blood. This new approach will help IDS maintain a steady supply.

Health and Nutrition Fair held at San Pedro High School
On Thursday, May 16th, a Health Nutrition Fair was held at the Angel Nunez Auditorium from 9AM through 1PM. Students learned and interacted in booths about healthy habits, food nutrition, and physical activities. The fair was a collaborative effort spearheaded by Robyn Daly Faber from the Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the San Pedro High School (SPHS). This joint initiative underscores a shared commitment to promoting health and nutrition among our students.

Mobile Health Clinic serves residents in northern Ambergris Caye
To promote healthy lifestyles on the island, Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez, the San Pedro Town Council, and partners organized a Mobile Health Clinic on Saturday, May 4th, in northern Ambergris Caye. Held ten miles north of San Pedro Town, residents in the area received information on leading a healthy lifestyle, wellness screenings and evaluations, and free consultations with medical specialists.

MoHW Receives Million-Dollar Equipment Donation from Belizean Diaspora
The Ministry of Health & Wellness (MoHW) received a donation of US$1.8 million worth of hospital equipment through the collaboration of Edward and Patricia Lord, generous donors from the Belizean diaspora, Build Belize Inc. and the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations. This substantial donation will be instrumental in improving Belize’s healthcare infrastructure.
