GOB introduces new regulations to contain the spread of COVID-19

The new regulations put in place are set to start December 20th, and will remain in place until a new set of rules are determined. The rules include a new curfew, restricted inter-district travel and 50% transport capacity.

Ministry of Health and Wellness Launches COVID-19 Christmas Campaign

The Ministry of Health and Wellness officially launched its COVID-19 Christmas Campaign on December 17, 2020. The campaign is centered on the theme, “It is better to have a safe Christmas season than to attend a funeral during the holidays,” and aims to sensitize the public on specific behavior changes necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19, especially during the Christmas season.

PAHO/WHO and the European Union (EU) donate 100 pulse oximeters to the Ministry of Health and Wellness

Through the reorientation of funds from the “Health Sector Support Programme Belize” project, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the European Union (EU) donated 100 pulse oximeters to the Ministry of Health and Wellness for effective and efficient case management and patient follow-up.

National lockdown is not on the government’s agenda

With the alarming spike of countrywide cases of COVID-19, some Belizeans are asking for a national lockdown to contain the surge in infections. PAHO/WHO Belize donates additional Medical Devices, PPEs, and Food Safety Kits to the Ministry of Health and Wellness

The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), through funding received from Germany, donated five (5) defibrillators, 100 pulse oximeters to support the case management of COVID-19 cases in Belize. Additionally, 100 non-contact thermometers, 15,000 units of shoulder-length disposable gloves, 40,000 KN95 masks, and six (6) food safety kits were also donated to the Ministry of Health and Wellness as part of the continuous support in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 vaccine already being made available; Belize awaits its order

In Belize, the distribution is expected to go as follows: Healthcare workers will go first, follow by the vulnerable, over-60 population. Afterwards it would be children under 23 months, pregnant women, hypertensives, kidney failure and HIV patients.

Ministry of Health and Wellness Receives Medical Donation from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

On December 7, 2020, the Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Michel Chebat received a grant for the “Project for strengthening Medical Imaging Systems in Belize” and other medical materials from the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize, H.E. Remus Li-Kuo Chen.
