Ambergris Caye experiencing a surge in unreported COVID-19 cases

A trustworthy source claims San Pedro could have more than 90 confirmed cases in the coming days. The surge in new cases is allegedly from within two community clusters, one of them connected to a construction site on the island.

The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) donated a total of three (3) patient ventilators, including accessories to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA) to assist in the care and management of persons who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, especially in severe case situations.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness Announces Rapid Testing Results Now Included in the Daily Infographics

The Ministry of Health and Wellness hereby informs the public that the daily infographic has been modified and will include the antigen rapid testing results for COVID-19 starting December 3, 2020. Due to this increased testing, the total number of COVID-19 cases has also increased and is being reflected in today’s infographic. This daily report will also include the new cases, the total number of cases countrywide, as well as a heat map providing the geographic areas and communities mostly affected.

World AIDS Day observed; prevalence rate in Belize is highest in the region

250 new cases are detected annually, with approximately 100 AIDS-related deaths. Belize's prevalence rate is 1.9%, the highest in Central America and the Caribbean.

Ministry of Health and Wellness Signs MOU with Belize Agricultural Health Authority

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was today signed between the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) and the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) as a part of the scaling up of the national response to COVID-19. The MOU specifically seeks to enhance and support the diagnostic capacity of the Central Medical Laboratory in terms of delivering PCR testing and more efficient results for SARS-CoV2.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is eager and committed to work with all sectors to reduce the increasing COVID-19 cases and deaths. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation in the immediate short term and adjust plans as necessary on the advice of its medical team.  

Ministry of Health and Wellness announces national curfew and plan to combat COVID-19

On Saturday, November 28th, a 21-day national curfew will be implemented from 9 pm to 5 am, in an effort to curb the surge in covid cases. The Health and Wellness sector will also see an increase in testing sites and more rapid testing, and Belizeans should see numbers escalate due to increased testing.
